GMC to confiscate houses with over Rs 1 lakh pending taxes

The municipal corporation has identified 118 residential properties in all its five zones in the city which it will soon confiscate for pending house and water tax amounting to over Rs 1 lakh. Notices to house owners will be sent in the next 15 days. The move follows after the house owners failed to clear their dues despite repeated reminders.

Municipal commissioner S K Singh, in a meeting at the corporation headquarters here on Thursday, issued necessary directions.

The corporation has also planned a drive to identify commercial establishments in the city running without license and collect requisite fees from them as per the corporation bylaws.

Dues will be collected on a priority basis from properties which pay taxes of over Rs 3 lakh per annum. “These bills will be finalized by September 15. Collection of taxes and license fees is expected to increase the corporation’s revenues and push development works,” said additional municipal commissioner D K Sinha.

As per the corporation bylaws, establishments under 34 different categories are required to procure licenses after payment of some fees. These include finance and insurance companies, registered builders, nursing homes, pathology centres, private hospitals, 5 and 3 star hotels, marriage and banquet halls among others. Teams have been formed for different zones to identify such establishments.
